I have really struggled with the main character’s train of thought vernacular, and haven’t been inspired to pick up the book. a slow start, jaw dropping gore doesn’t enter the story until page 121. i’m hopeful for the remaining parts of the book, but this could land in my DNF folder.

I wouldn’t expect to like this, but it’s a winner from page 1. A laugh out loud funny dystopian fantasy. video games meets hunger games.

this came at jus the right time. i’ve been navigating so much bull shit, and desperately needed a dose of sarcasm, levity, and inspiration.

a riley sager mystery is the ultimate page turner. some stories aren’t as gripping as others, but i always enjoy going along for the ride. a riley sagar novel is “… like pizza, baby, it’s good no matter what.”

the prose was difficult for me to follow at first, so fucking flowery. is it poetic? is it abstract? or is it just annoying? the jury is still out. it’s reminding me of demon copperhead, which i wasn’t a fan of. (it had no business being that long and ending in such a trite way.) i’m hopeful this one picks back up. am i reading slower these days, or are the books i’ve been choosing just not right for me?

it’s so great to be back in the world of harlan coben, master of the hook and twist. the last three books i read were a bit hard to get through. 1. lesbian love story without a climax (pun intended); 2. cleverly mind-numbing steven king novel; and 3. mystery laced with so many corny similes my eyes were rolling out of my head. caught is a classic coben; it’s so refreshing after the last few stories.

part five. didn’t expect this to be such a difficult read. the hallucinations and inner monologues can be difficult to follow. it’s prosaic and mind numbing, but not tedious. i find it sort of brilliant, like as you read you too are losing your god damn mind and just want to escape.
