Sometimes I think to myself, “Ah yes, this would be good to do for theatre class because I remember when I did it in my own theatre classes!” And then it turns out I forgot literally everything that happens. OOPS.

I’m very tempted to DNF but I know I’ll be desperate to know if I was right about the ending. (I probably am.)

In the nicest way possible, this book makes me believe that I truly can get published one day.

I can’t tell if it’s Colleen Hoover or what… I’m really trying to enjoy it, but ultimately I feel really bored. I honestly had forgotten I was listening to it. I really hope the movie is good.

…y’all I forgot how hot this book was. Like okay it’s a slowwwwww burn and so much of it is just. Building until we get HERE. And then we ARE.

Oh, did I mention I’m rereading (or should I say re-listening because I’m doing an audiobook this time) so that I can watch the movie and be refreshed?

I love this book. I love the Creature. I love Papa De Lacy. I love the humanity.

Yes, Celeste is a friend of mine, but that’s not why I love it. Her words fly off the page with lyricism and musicality. They drip with honey fresh from the comb. They lilt with the accent of someone who grew up in the world of white squirrels and yellow rose fields. I cannot put it down.

I really like Payne’s storytelling style. He keeps a lot of humor going even when talking about difficult topics, like addiction, racism, his own mental health, and the struggles he faced in different cases.

Recommended to me by a friend, listening to the audiobook read by the author. I will say, hearing the author read his own book aloud makes it all the better. The narration is great.
I love his connection to Joe Pistone; it’s awesome!!
I don’t like the bit about him delving into satanism as a teen. It’s…weird. Not the satanjsm itself but the way he makes it about finding the Christian god. Bro.

Don’t get me wrong, I am so intrigued by this case. But Amanda is not an always great narrator, both as a writer and as an audio reader. It feels almost elementary at times with the language and tone; not childish, but basic. But it’s still good and I’m glad she’s able to tell her story.

Listening to this as I anxiously await the last two episodes on Hulu… Oh Amanda. How my heart breaks for you.
