I don't like Stephen Kellner. He is Darius's father. I think he might just be mean to Darius because he is trying to make him not get made fun of. If he looses weight then he will not get bullied as much he just goes about it wrong.

My sticky note is "What would the book be like from Darius's father's perspective, I think it would be interesting. The book often talks about how he is depressed like Darius. It talks about how 'he (the father) is a good man, however he is not Zotorian'(Khorram 164). He must have grown up differently than the rest so I think it would be interesting. Also learning how he met the mom.

Adversity impacts the way others see us because it makes people feel like they belong when there isn't adversity. Darius grandpa makes Darius feel bad when he talks about how he likes the father but 'he is not Zoroastrian. You and Laleh are not either"(Khorram 164). This makes him disappointed in Darius for something he doesn't even control. It also makes Darius feel disappointed in himself.

I read about bullying. I learned that bullying is most common because of a persons physical appearance and race. Bullying is most common in schools due to "physical appearance (30%), race (10%)"(DoSomething.org). This is important because the main character Darius in the book is both overweight and Persian meaning he is more likely to be bullied.

I wondered why he moved to Portland the book talks about how Darius moved there but typiclly there is a reason someone moves.

My question is where does the story take place. There are a few possible answers. The setting seems like it might be from America or Canada with some of the characters. The book talks about how he is,“Only half Persian” (Khorram 2). This along with the cover having buildings that don’t look American makes me think the book might take place in Persia.
