putting all current reads on hold for this i might pull an all nighter

my internship is frying me and reading faulkner is not helping, so i’m gonna turn my brain juices off and begin reading this book i’ve always wanted to read

short read to get me out of my reading slump:)

i know i’m far from completing this book but the LGBT+ themes just got introduced in the most superficial way possible. especially since the novel is set in medieval china, how the author introduces Zetian’s bi-curiosity is just disappointingly shallow that failed to be introduced in a culturally sensitive way especially for something set in that particular setting.

every page has a beautiful prose worthy of tabbing. i just feel like it’s too excessive and it seems like the writer is extending himself too much. but i’m trying to understand that this is just vuong’s writing style ://
