Listening to the audiobook sped up while i’m working so it might seem denser than it is, but stylistically I don’t know that it’s my favorite.

The way it’s written is really engaging- really enjoying the way it switches between telling the stories of revolutionaries to civilians who were swept up in the conflict to force the reader to consider multiple perspectives.

The introduction was really interesting as someone who has already read one version of this book.

“An embarassing distortion of womanhood or a wan pastiche of manhood - ridiculous either way” …. where are my royalties??? 🧐🧐🧐

I fear I will be posting updates very frequently for this book. Both authors I’ve encountered so far are older than me, and it’s really interesting to hear about growing up closeted during the AIDS crisis and escapism found online and through horror media.

Really good so far- really enjoying the stylistic choices that emphasize just how many people at this time period are having similar experiences

First 8 chapters down… a little hard to read because of the way he writes pwople with accents but still good

i tried to read this when i was 8 and did not get very far but now that i’m older and have worked in toxicology this book is very interesting! the foreword refers to a close friend that rachel wrote to a lot… alluding to who I’m assuming is dorothy freeman… who was in fact Not a close friend… CALL THEM GIRLFRIENDS COWARD!!!

I thought this when I read Maurice as well but it’s so fascinating how like 1800s era homosexuality seems like it stems from hatred of women… The whole “I’m not gay but women are sooooo nasty”
