The third essay is pretty interesting, it's dealing with the challenges and limitations of Marxist accounts of Italian economic history (specifically Gramsci and Romero), very good.

Very crisp analysis so far, good stuff

This book, which I guess is supposed to make me more sympathetic to social democratic parties, is doing the opposite. Some of these case studies are plain ridiculous with just how easily they capitulate to opposition.

It's okay, but the Trot energy of this is distracting from Anderson's otherwise serviceable analysis of thinkers who, with the exception of Althusser, had little of anything to do with Stalin or stuff like that. Eminently apolitical thinkers, barring Gramsci, do not warrant talking about how the USSR degenerated and sucked ass after Lenin died very five pages.
