Very crisp analysis so far, good stuff

This book, which I guess is supposed to make me more sympathetic to social democratic parties, is doing the opposite. Some of these case studies are plain ridiculous with just how easily they capitulate to opposition.

It's okay, but the Trot energy of this is distracting from Anderson's otherwise serviceable analysis of thinkers who, with the exception of Althusser, had little of anything to do with Stalin or stuff like that. Eminently apolitical thinkers, barring Gramsci, do not warrant talking about how the USSR degenerated and sucked ass after Lenin died very five pages.

Social democracy only really being "radical" in marginal states like Sweden or Austria during the Cold war and actively opposed everywhere else? Not super surprising.

Fascinating so far... But these European social democratic parties, Jesus Christ do they really not have any idea of how to even appear competent, do they? Sassoon seems to have done his homework with the research on the Italian, PCI in particular... Great analysis and marshalling of sources.
