The trial begins, and Atticus presents his evidence and attempts to defend Tom Robinson from his accusations, the evidence appears to be solid, with it being nearly certain that it was not him who had harmed the woman, but the woman's father. However, the jury still condemned the man due to his race, and Jem, who had been at the trial, left in a flurry of tears and anger, not understanding why he had not been freed.

Scout, Jem, and Dill are all friends living in a small town in Alabama, Scout's father is a lawyer and there is a strange man that lives in an old house who no one has seen called Boo Radley, the friends are interested in this house and want to see what the man looks like so they constantly get into trouble doing dumb things around his house.

The fourth story begins with a painter, painting a picture of a lady, who is a model. The man sees a strange, corpse-like person outside and both the man and the lady begin to have erie dreams about him. Eventually, the man and the woman begin to fall in love, when the woman finds an onyx necklace contained in a box with a yellow sign on it. The corpse-like man breaks in, steals the necklace, and the two die.

At the end of the third story, the old man wakes up in the church, realizing all that had transpired previously (the chase) took place within a dream. Suddenly everything goes cold, the walls fall away, and the old man is left entirely alone, face to face with the king in yellow himself. At the beginning of the fourth story, a man sits debating what causes certain stimuli to bring back certain memories and feelings.

A middle-aged man is listening to a sermon at a church when he notices the organist leaving the church, he is thrilled at first, having not enjoyed his "wicked" music, however, he comes back not but a minute later, and gives him a vile glare, though he believes this glare to be just a product of his imagination. The young man leaves the church after the sermon is finished, however, the organist appears to follow him.

The protagonist of the third story, a simple man who does not often find any meaning or subtly in art or music, merely hearing the melody and seeing the colors, is in church, waiting for the sermon of the preacher, a man who goes by the name "Monseigneur C". It is revealed that the protagonist has endured some form of psychological distress due to reading The King In Yellow.

In the first story, Castaige tries to kill his cousin, believing he is part of a royal lineage and that in doing so will secure the crown. In his insanity, the cops are called and he is condemned to an asylum for the criminally insane, where he would eventually die. In the next story, Alec is shown an impressive chemical that Boris Yvan has developed that turns biological life into pure, perfect marble, killing them.

In the first short story, the year is 1920, and Mr. Castaigne explains the current situation in America. Castaigne is thought by most to be partially mental, though he hates any mention of words such as "crazy". He harbors a crown within a safe and believes he is of a royal lineage. Near the end of the story, he attempts to assassinate his cousin to secure his place as a royal, however, it backfires spectacularly.

Dan, Abby, and Jordan were trapped in the Warden's office with Professor Reyes and Cal. Professor Reyes attempts to torture Dan because she believes he knows the word that breaks the hypnosis of the gem. She cuts his neck to no avail as Dan does not know the word, suddenly Abby blurts it out, "Sanctum". Dan and Reyes begin to fight and they knock over a candle which sets the asylum a blaze.

Jordan, Abby, and Dan argue, Jordan and Abby travel to the police where they intend to tell the cops about the cult, and Dan goes to find a cure for the hypnosis. Cal catches Dan, Cal calls the police and tells them about Abby and Jordan, it turns out the police are part of the cult. Dan is drugged and wakes up in the Warden's office, where the cult leader, that being Mrs Reyes, tries to get Dan to tell her the cure.

Abby, Jorda, Dan, and Micah are all surrounded, when Micah bolts toward the group of cultists, this buys the rest time to escape, where they decide to go to the computer lab and do some research on their recent findings about the cult and the Warden. Dan begins to refer to the Warden in first-person which causes Abby to become agitated. The cultists find their location.

Dan, Abby, Jordan, and Micah, explore several abandoned homes that Felix had listed for them to explore, they find several old documents, photos, and other interesting relics, in addition to the abandoned homes, they find the childhood home of the Warden, and in it they find his journal. Shortly after they finish exploring the last home, they are surrounded and attacked by several cult members who had followed them.

Dan finds an unusual tent with an old man in it who recognizes Dan as the Warden, they chat though little can be gleaned from said chat due to the old man's vague nature, and Dan leaves the tent, afterward Dan tells his friends about the tent, and takes them to said tent, but when they arrive, there is nothing there.

Dan Abby and Jordan attend the festivities at the carnival, in an attempt to get some answers about the so-called cult within the town, Dan spots a cult member and attempts to run after them but gets swarmed by four other cultists. The cultists injure Dan leaving him delirious, they run off after Jordan finds Dan, but just before they run off Dan spots a pair of shoes on one of the cultists, the same shoes Cal wears.

Dan, Jordan, and Abby go to meet Abby's aunt, little do they know they are being followed, as looking out the window they can see a masked figure in a red robe, who runs off as soon as they notice him. Afterward, they find some abandoned houses with letters and are stalked, they read some of the letters and discover that a secret cult exists within the town, known as "The Scarlets".

The slow. unsettling realization begins to dawn upon the group of friends, they are beginning to go mad. Abby begins to hear her aunt Lucy everywhere with increasing regularity, and Dan begins to hallucinate, seeing a boy in the corner of the room singing a nursery rhyme with Dan's full name. Dan and Abby were chatting and having dinner when Jordan entered the room with several folders, and they all began research.

Daniel, Abby, and Jordan sit at a table for dinner with Cal and Micah, they discuss various things about the college and Cal begins "Rating" prospies, afterwards he begins talking about the old warden, this irritates Dan and causes him to yell at Cal, afterwards Micah takes Dan to his room where Dan looks out a window to see the medical ward, with George in it, still mouthing his name before someone drags him away.

Dan, Abby, and Jordan talk about what their next move will be now they are back at the college, Abby intends to visit her Aunt, while Jordan and Dan are still unsure. Dan and his friends are with several other prospies, being talked to about the college by Micah and Cal, when suddenly a kid named Doug begins to say Dan's name repeatedly, among other things and then attempts to jump out of a window.

Dan begins to become jealous of the other people that Abby hangs out with at the college, dan meets several new people, and the trio, Dan, Abby, and Jordan begin trying to learn why Felix wanted them to go here.

Dan, Jordan, and Abby all decide to return to the college where a fair is happening, they decided to meet here after being given cryptic clues by Felix and three pieces of a ripped-up photo, they intend to explore this place and finally put a rest to whatever mysterious lay within the college and the Wardens past, and hopefully stop the incessant nightmares and voices that the group had been hearing for several days.

Dan went to visit Felix in the mental institution after reading the letter that Felix's mother had written to Dan urging him to do so. Felix acted almost as if he was possessed, speaking in odd ways and saying cryptic words until Felix began to act erratically, giving Dan a slip of paper and telling him to "follow", Abby and Jordan had already had papers, and together they figured out that the papers had coordinates.

Dan, now in different schools from his friends Abby and Jordan, is noticing his friends have been offline a lot recently and is beginning to feel alone, and is having minor issues making friends at his new school. His parents despise talking about NHCP after the events of the first book when Dan attempted to bring it up to his mom. Dan suddenly gets a mysterious letter from Fellix's mother.

Killings have been occurring within the college since Dan re-entered the old office for the third time, lapses in Dan's memory make him question his sanity and if it is him who is doing the killings, the police are constantly watching him. Dan gets a note to meet someone in the old office, where he is attacked by Yi who is possessed by the Sculptor, out for revenge against the warden, who shares the same name as Dan.

Dan and his friends are currently in a worsening mood and Dan and Abby's relationship appears to be coming to a grinding halt, this all occurring after their second journey to the abandoned office. Dan goes to a man named Sal's house whom he found via an internet page Sal had made, he asks Sal questions about the college, but everything goes wrong after Dan tells Sal his name, Sal screams at Dan to leave his house.

Dan goes on a date with Abby after getting an unusual ghost email and is concerned about it, after coming back from the date they find Jordan who is drunk and indignant, they eventually decide they should go check out the abandoned office again where they find a lower area and a room that Dan had seen in what he believed to be a hallucination, the next day all of Dan's friends are noticeably very tired and irritable.

Dan with his two new friends, Roger and Abby, enter an off-limits area of the college and discover horrific photos displaying how patients used to be treated when the college was used as an asylum, afterwards, Dan returns to his dorm where he discovers the door now leads to an abandoned looking asylum room, after closing the door and reopening it everything returns to normal.

Dan goes to New Hampshire College for a better education in a college prep program, New Hampshire College used to be an asylum which Dan didn't think anything of until reaching the college, where he felt extremely uneasy.

Malleus managed to acquire her soul, but just as she did, Willow Jane wrapped her gossamer around her eyes and stabbed through her soul and her body, causing her to be reduced to an ash-black skeleton, and successfully beating Malleus. The fates arrived and granted Willow one boon, she wished for the people lost in the shadows to be returned.

Willow Jane learns she is an "Uncanny" and she can stop and rewind time at will by doing various things with a metal filament that comes out of her thumb, but she can't rewind too far or stay frozen in time for too long because it can kill her, these time stops are called "Glimpses". Willow and Harken have agreed to trade a family heirloom to the Malleus in return for her sister who she had kidnapped.

Will Patrick and Kelly have died and Willow Jane has discovered she has unusual abilities, mostly time-related, the shadowless have attacked Willow and Devon, successfully killing Devon, but Jane escapes with the help of Harken, afterward, Willow finally reads the letter from her dad and she learns he expected from the beginning that she would one day meet Harken.
