Rasputin was the town troublemaker in his poor village in Siberia. He decides to leave town to escape the law and meets a monk who encourages him to become a man of God. He spends his time wandering around living like an elder to become closer to God. Rumors spread about his healing powers and he gained many followers. Most of his followers are women who sleep with him. He deceives many people to rise in society.

Nemesis does not want to let Tyrus die for crimes he did not commit. Tyrus needs his reputation to be ruined so that the people of the Empire will not want another Emperor ever again. Tyrus is destroying a system that has been enforced for hundreds of years. For him to be successful he must have a public health. Nemesis saved him once but she cannot do it twice because the lives of the people are more important.

Nemesis and Tyrus plan to set their empire against themselves in hopes that the citizens will try and free themselves from the Domitrian rule. Nemesis attempts to train Gladdic to lead the revolution but when it comes time to act he is cowardly and forces Nemesis to take his place. By taking a stand, she sets herself against Tyrus and must watch as he turns himself into someone the galaxy hates and wishes dead.

Nemesis discovers Tyrus was kept alive so the Partisains could get the command codes to his ship from him. Nemesis helps him break free from the hospital and take over the ship. Tyrus gives the command codes to Nemesis so the ship is hers to control. Together they imprison everyone on the ship. They plan on traveling to the Chrysanthemum to reclaim the Empire. Once there, they wish to reveal how the empire came to be

Nemesis and the Partisans lured Tyrus onto their ship using Nemesis as bait. A planned explosion kills him and in his last moments he pushes Nemesis away from the blast and saves her. After his death, Nemesis discovers a holographic video of him where he explains that he stabbed her to set her free. He explains how all of his actions in the past years have been to free the Excess from corrupt rulers.

Nemesis has joined forces with Neveni and a group of Partisans to create a plan and kill Tyrus. Nemesis feels like she owes him and must kill him because his old self would have wanted that. They plan to attack him in the chaotic gale that will disable his electronic forces. The Partisans have projectiles that do not require tech so they have an advantage. Tyrus does not come to battle so they need bait to lure him.

Tyrus has exiled Nemesis because she refused to allow herself to be used. He wished her to join his side as his goddess. Nemesis couldn´t stand the idea of people throwing their lives away for her or worshipping her when she was lying to them. Once exiled, she decides she cannot live with herself if she decides to abandon the people of the Empire with Tyrus in power. She vows to the stars that she will kill Tyrus.

The Excess learn that Nemesis is alive and she becomes their symbol of hope and rebellion. Tyrus brings Nemesis to him and demands she join him in ruling the empire. Tyrus has the power to create malignant space and cause supernovas so he has been titled a god and Devine Emperor. If Nemesis refuses to join him, Tyrus will not treat Aunguish (her only friend). She cannot let Aunguish die so Tyrus holds the power.

Orpheus wants to challenge his father´s control over the music industry and make Zimri a star. She has talent that hasn´t been seen in years. They put on a concert where Zimri performed her original songs in an old theater. Officers and security from Chanson Indusrty raid the concert, falsely accusing Zirmi of stealing music. Zimri´s mother returns and proves her innocence. They all find a loophole to create music.

Zimri is a Plebe and works 12-hour shifts at a factory that ships goods to Plutes on the other side of town. Orpheus is a Plute and spends his days in the spotlight trying like everyone else to remain seen on social media. Plutes are getting ASAs that make you a genius in certain fields. He refuses to get one, runs away, changes his identity, and begins working with Zimri on the poor side of town.

Nemesis and Tyrus get married once she returns from the Sacred City. Tyrus has lost his ability to feel sympathy or guilt due to his forced drug use. He murders thousands of people with Reselvant Mist and blames Senator Pasus for the deaths. Tyrus can gain control over him and regain his freedom from under his thumb. Tyrus is still corrupt and evil. He stabs Nemesis when she questions his decision to murder people.

Tyrus and Nemesis's escape plan fails and Tyrus gets left behind to remain under Pasus's control. Nemesis sticks to the plan to bring the Interdict back to prove Tyrus's innocence. When she arrives she witnesses the Interdicts murder and is stranded in another star system. 4 years later, she returns to Tyrus and the drugs poisoning him have damaged his mind like she feared. The man she left is gone.

While Tyrus and Nemesis were away Pasus took control over the Empire. Everyone is under his influence so when Tyrus returns he is trapped. Pasus sets up a deal where Tyrus has no other choice than to rely on Pasus for a narcotic every day. The narcotic is so powerful Tyrus is persuaded to sign away everything he owns to other senators. Nemesis is formulating a plan for their escape so they can seek help elsewhere.

The vicars in the empire are refusing to support Tyrus, so he can use the sceptor to command the machines. With no machines online the starships are failing and his enemies know he is weak. Tyrus and Nemesis travel to a distant star system to prove a religious myth wrong so they can blackmail the vicars into supporting him. They discover the Sacred City isn't a myth at all and all the stories are true.

Tyrus is a new young Emporer and wants to start a new era in the Empire. He doesn't believe in destroying science or ancient knowledge. He wants people to think for themselves and repair things without machines running everything. The royal scepter is supposed to control all the machines in the galaxy, but Tyrus cannot get it to work. His enemies will strike now that they know he is weak without the scepter.

The Emperor has killed all the senatorial families who stray from his beliefs. Donia and her whole family die leaving Nemesis with no purpose. She vows to kill the Emperor for murdering the only person she loved. She battles the Emperor's diabolic Enmity but is saved by someone who shoots Enmity until she dies. Nemesis's rescuer is Tyrus the royal madman and together they vow to kill the Emperor to free the galaxy.

Donia's father displeased the Emperor by placing forbidden knowledge in the hands of common people. At the risk of an uprising, the Emperor killed the people and requested Donia travel to the Imperial Court. Her mother fears she will be executed so she trains Nemesis to act human, and sends her in Donia's place. Donia makes Nemesis promise to stay alive or she will kill herself.

Diabolics are genetically modified humans that are trained like animals to be predators. They are loyal to one person and live to keep them safe at the cost of their own life. A powerful family buys Nemesis to serve their daughter, Donia. They perform a procedure that bonds the two girls and all is well at first. The Senate passed a law saying to dispose of Diabolics. Now Donia is planning to save Nemesis.

Ivy has been put out beyond the fence. She survives an attack from Mark Laird who tries to rape and kill her. After escaping, she walks until she finds an old town and is found by two people. They clean her wounds and allow her to travel back to their camp. She has lived in the camp community for around a month when Mark starts spreading rumors. He reveals her relationship with Bishop and no one is happy about it.

I loved this book. I hate how they are forced into marriages at such a young age. I feel like they aren't mature enough to be starting families and they are forced to pretend they are grown adults. Their society has reverted to how things used to be. Thinking that women should stay in the house and raise children is an old idea. I hate that their society went back to thinking simple-mindedly after the war.

When Julie arrives at her mother's house she meets her mom's new husband and their two adopted children. Julie asks the kids about school and notices that her mom is answering for Tina rather than Tina answering for herself. Sandy explains that Tina has a condition. Julie sniffs out that her mother is doing the same thing to Tina that was done to her. She realizes her mother is a monster and the cycle needs to end.

Julie turns her parents in for child abuse and gets all the foster kids taken away. She refuses to testify in court so she and Dany are still living at home. Julie finally leaves home without the help of the system and buys a car. She starts college where she learns about MBP. Her discovery confirms that her mother was the cause of her 'illness'. She cannot get anyone she tells to believe her story.

Julie's mother is dead set on Julie getting heart surgery. They've been to 4 cardiologists and one could identify what's wrong with her heart. He said there was no reason for Julie to have heart surgery. This led her to look for a different doctor. Julie is looking forward to putting all of her suffering to an end and finally knowing what is wrong with her. But part of her doubts how sick she really is.

Julie's family seems normal when they put on a fake face in town. There are no relatives or neighbors to understand the horrors that are happening inside the walls of their trailer. On multiple occasions, Julie's mom has threatened to kill herself and the children have begged her to stop. Julie's mom tells her husband lies about the children so he can discipline them to "feel like a man".

Julie's Grandma Madge is always giving her 'candy' from her purse which ends up making her sick. She lies to Julie's parents and says someone else gave the candy to her. Finally, Julie's dad has enough and they move away so they are free of Madge. Julie's mom is always convinced that something is wrong with her daughter and tells her to 'act sick for the doctor to see how bad it is'.

Warner and Kenji impulsively decide to go to save Ella from the military base she is being held on. They need to get to her before The Reestablishment makes Ella the new host of Emmaline's powers. Once they find Ella they realize she has no memories of them. With Warner's help, Ella disables the thing controlling her mind and has access to her memories again. The rescue mission turns out to be successful.

During Anderson's attack on the Sanctuary, he captured Ella and took her back to the Oceania base. Ella's brain is wiped clean and injected with false memories so she remembers nothing. All of her memories are created by Anderson and she now thinks her name is Juliette. She is Anderson's most trusted supreme guard and spends her days shadowing him. Juliette is truly loyal and trusting towards him.

Ella has been in a coma for about a week and hopes for her recovery are dwindling. Warner has reverted back to his old ways of being merciless and seeming to have no emotions. Kenji is the only one who still believes Ella can make a full recovery after being mentally attacked by Emmaline. Although Ella isn't awake, she is aware that Emmaline's conscience has chosen her brain as its new home.

The Omega Point group is staying at the Sanctuary. Somehow Emmaline is able to reach Ella telepathically and controls her to leave the safety of the Sanctuary. Once outside, Ella's mind is fully attacked by Emmaline's Energy. Emmaline's goal is to transfer her mind to Ella's body and kill her so that she can finally die and the world will be free from her easily manipulated powers.

Juliette and the children of the commanders have been remembering parts of their childhood they didn't know they'd been forced to forget. They remember Ella who is currently called Juliette. Multiple times Ella has had her brain wiped clean so she doesn't know who she is until her sister Emmaline shows her the whole truth. Emmaline's mind is being used so that people see a dying world when that's far from the truth.
