I’ve been disappointed in how long it’s been taking me to read this book. However, I’ve realized now that this isn’t the type of book you really sit down and read.
“Dream Work” is a poetry collection, and it should be read as such. Reading of poetry is not linear, or fast, or organized; I should not expect it to be

Despite what critics say, Carnegie’s book seems less about human nature and more about what it takes to be a good person. I wouldn’t call his methods manipulative, I would call them observational and kind.
I don’t think I’ve learned much from Carnegie, I’m glad that I haven’t. That means I’m doing something right

The persistence of hope appears to be the most prevalent theme, and the one I find most enticing

I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m enjoying this book, but that is in no way a criticism; this is not the type of book you enjoy.
However, this is the type of book from which you cannot look away. The description of life in camps is, frankly, more than I can take. I find myself unable to read more than a few pages at once. The emotional descriptions are poignant, I am amazed that analysis can happen in such a place.

I’m enjoying this so far. While I don’t particularly agree with Lewis’s idea of love, it has helped me form my own. For that I am thankful
