Someone desperately needs to match Carmilla's freak. I also never knew that 19th century gothic fables were on some gay ass shit.

A shockingly sensual read with unsettling descriptions and imagery.

Laura was just longing and thirsting and the 19th century version of the nihilistic, avoidant bisexual appeared out of thin air. Lucky her.

Thoughts so far:

- Neoliberal politics have accelerated wealth inequality, which in turn, leads to higher crime rates. Police are not here to protect us, they are here to deal with the symptoms of a failing society and underfunded social safety-nets

- Why the fuck are police in schools? There's no evidence they do anything but send our kids to jail. We need to embrace problematic children, not push them away

"I use the analogy of the robber and the policeman consciously. Zionists have penned a narrative where they are a force for good, legitimately fighting off intruders. But the reality, of course, is the inverse. Colonialism is the robber and the policeman at once, committing the crime and legalizing it."

"If we are assessing a certain idological project ..., why not judge it based on how it materially manifests rather than on the perceived attributes of its subjects? Zionism is best defined by its material manifestations---Zionism is what Zionism does. When Zionism's most recent manifestation is genocide, ... what difference does it make how the grieving grieve?

Geez

Some of the best writing I've ever read. First passage:

We die a lot. We die in fleeting headlines, in between our breaths. Our death is so quotidian that journalists report it as though they're reporting the weather: Cloudy skies, light showers, and 3,000 Palestinians dead in the past ten days. And much like the weather, only God is responsible - not armed settlers, not targeted drone strikes.

Harrowing stuff

Fuck its getting good. Chapter 6 (There's Magic in them Matrices) went into reducing higher dimensional problems using eigenvectors.

This chapter was the perfect mixture of theory, history, and research (and there were no stupid math notation without subscripts)

My thoughts rn are that the author has trouble finding an ideal target audience. I feel a part of the target audience in this chapter
