One part that was suspenseful was when Paul and the team barely escaped death from the giant sandworm on a ornithopter. "A gigantic sand whirlpool began forming there to the right of the crawler. It moved faster and faster. Sand and dust filled the air now for hundreds of meters around" (157). This was suspenseful because, Paul was on the sand getting people into the ornithopter and barely got out himself.

One part that was interesting was when Paul had dreamed of the same girl Jessica knew a poem about. ""What poem?" the Reverend Mother asked. Paul opened his eyes. "It's just one of Gurney Halleck's tone poems for sad times"" (32). This was interesting because Paul's dream, had mimicked the poem Jessica recited to him without any prior knowledge.

Something that was funny was when Ash read a headline that said ""Three Senators Indicted for Money Laundering," and "Sixteen Adorable Dog Fails." The headline read" (292). This was funny because it was unexpected to see dog fail next to senators who were money launderers. Something I thought while reading is that this is a comment on society, how funny entertainment can be in the same article as criminal offences.

One part that shows important character growth was in chapter 16 when Ash gave up from selling illegal substances and only supplements. "Sorry, man," I told him. "I'm just selling standard supplements now, and I gave him all the drugs he had left the week before" (230). This helped Ash because not only is he keeping his promise with Hunter about not selling drugs, but also keeping him away from jail.

One part that shocked me was in chapter 8 when Ash was told that he was the center of the universe. "You, Ashley Bowman, have become the center of the universe." This surprised me because I was not so sure what Ed meant. Is Ash a god of some sorts? Ruler? Dose he hold any power that he is not aware of? I guess I will have to read farther in to find out.

Something that shocked me was when Ash saw a stop sign colored blue while in the car home, and his family acted like it was normal. "I pointed at the stop sign again. It's blue. Then he looked at me like he was waiting for a punchline of a joke. Your Point?" I was shocked here because I didn't expect such a small change around him to make him think twice about every STOP sign he had ever seen.

Jonah R. is finished with The Maze Runner (The Maze Runner, #1)
One real world message the author is teaching is when the Gladers found out that they were orphans, tested in the Maze to see if they were strong enough to find a death cure in the Andes. “you’re just a few of millions orphaned. They tested thousands, chose you for the big one. The ultimate test." (366) This part of the novel shows a message that the government can control anything that they desire.

One part that surprised me was when Thomas revealed that he and Teresa designed the entire Maze and were used by the creators to do it "Teresa and I helped design the Maze. We created the whole thing." (307) This shocked me because I thought that Thomas and Teresa were like the other Gladers, determined to escape, and had no memory before entering the Glade like Thomas thinks to himself at the start of the novel.

One part that was surprising was when the boys were discuss about how to defend themselves and leave the Maze. Minho and Newt agree, spending the night in the maze is the only choice they have."We’ll pack our stuff shuck-full so we can stay out there a few days, there’s no point in coming back here, anyway.” (249) This surprised me because Newt and Minho are give themselves a death wish but they know its the only way

One conflict in Chapter 26, Newt proposed that Thomas was to be thrown in the slammer for one day and then let him train to be a Keeper. If he proves himself, they'll make him the Keeper of the Runners. “Here’s my recommendation,” Newt said. “You broke our bloody Number One Rule, so you get one day in the Slammer. That’s your punishment." I know Thomas broke rule one, but Newt could have been a little bit nicer.

One part that was interesting was when Thomas noticed a Beetle Blade spying on him with the word "Wicked" written on it. "-a creepy glow on six capital letters smeared across the torso, as if they had been written with blood: WICKED." Earlier, He had seen another beetle blade with the same word on it. This made me curious about this "Wicked" is or means because I believe this word has a bigger meaning in the book.

One thing that was crutial to the plot was when, MedJacks are called to take a look at the girl. They find out that she is in a coma. One of the boys yells, asking why the MedJacks get to touch her first. Alby says that if any of them touches her, he will be banished. He did this to keep her safe. When they took her away, Thomas felt sympathy for the girl and felt a connection to her in some way he didn’t understand.

Jonah R. is starting The Jacket
A part that was very sad was when he was feeling self-conscious about his jacket. For example, when he was at recess, he thought all the students and staff were laughing at him for his jacket. My friend Steve, ate an apple while looking at me, and the girls turned to whisper on the monkey bars. The staff were no help. They looked at me and talked about how weird I looked in my jacket. This shows that the story was sad.
