One important part of ESCAPE is when the readers are let in to Cody's passion for theme park design. In the text it said, "But every time he thought about changing hobbies----no, obsessions---he felt hollow inside. Wrong. Theme parks were just it"(17). This is important because it helps the reader understand why Cody wants to go to ESCAPE so badly and why he deserves to go.

Cody was distraught when he opened the daily ESCAPE social media post and saw that they had selected another Cody to go to the grand opening. In the text it says, "He pressed his hands to his eyes. He wasn't crying. He was just trying to blot out the world"(14). This proves that Cody was extremely upset that he wasn't chosen and that he knew the chances of them picking another Cody were very slim.

One shocking occurrence was when Jake gets angry at Addy and tries to kill her by choking her. "My skull explodes with pain and my vision goes red around the edges, then black....Something presses across my neck and I'm choking"(331). This proves that Jake expressed his emotions in a violent way. While it is reasonable that he was upset after being cheated on, physical violence was not the way to go about it.

One shocking part of my book was when Nate Macauley was arrested for murdering Simon Kelleher. The text said, "...There's no trace of the boy I know from the phone, or our motorcycle rides, or my media room...I still believe that Nate's the real one. Whatever the police think, or found, doesn't change that"(276). This proves that Bronwyn doesn't think Nate would kill Simon, even with his criminal history.

One interesting scene in my reading was when Eli Kleinfelter, a lawyer, shares his thoughts on the murder case with Bronwyn. "...he seems like the type of kid to have more than four enemies"(180). This shows that Eli believes the police should be focusing on who else could have had a reason to kill Simon. He introduces the idea that it could have been another kid who may have been victimized by About That.

One pivotal scene in my reading was when Addy was talking to Janae in the bathroom. Since Addy's friends no longer wanted to be around her after she cheated on Jake, she finally had a conversation with Janae, who she had never talked to before. "How the mighty have fallen, Addy. You've never talked to me before"(170). This shows that Addy's popularity plummeted after it got out what she had done to Jake.

One momentous thing that happened in my book was when Addy expresses that she is relived that About That has stopped since Simon died. The text says, "...at least About That isn't hanging over everybody's heads anymore. And if I'm being 100% honest, I have to admit---that's a relief"(65). This raises the suspicion that Addy could be the on who killed Simon. Addy also said she has secrets that no one can know about.

Bronwyn is a good student and does not get in trouble often. In the text, Nate Macauley, the schoolwide troublemaker, says to Bronwyn, "You make a wrong turn? This is detention, not student council" (5). This tells the reader that Bronwyn is focused on extracurriculars and her academic activities are known around school. Additionally, Bronwyn seems out of place with the students in detention, hence Nate's comment.

Citra punching Rowan in the face, thus granting him immunity was an important moment in my reading. She showed cleverness and bravery by devising this plan. "Sly and artful....with just enough plausible deniability....you'll do well among us."(431) These words from Xenocrates prove that Citra had carefully come up with her plan and executed it well, knowing the risks and therefore showing cleverness and bravery.

One important part of my reading this week was when Scythe Volta self-gleaned after gleaning a class of Tonist children. Unlike Goddard, Volta was miserable after doing it."Self-gleaning is every Scythe's last prerogative. You can't rob that from me Rowan..." (386) Scythe Volta couldn't live breaking morals that he was forced to under Scythe Goddard. He self gleaned because he didn't like the person he had become.

One pivotal moment in my reading this week was when Gerald Van Der Gans turned out to be Scythe Faraday. Thinking this was the man who killed Scythe Faraday, Citra shot him in the knee from afar. In the text, it says, "Then she saw the man's face. Familiar. Too familiar....It wasn't until he spoke that she had to accept the truth." The mood in this section is extremely tense and has the reader on edge.

A detail in my reading that I found interesting was when Scythe Curie told Citra what her real first name was. It is customary for a Scythe to only go by their Patron Historic's name after they are initiated. "Susan....When I was a little girl, they called me Susan. Suzy. Sue." This detail was important because telling Citra her first name meant Scythe Curie finally felt comfortable on a personal level with Citra.

The most important event in my reading this week was at the conclave of the Scythes, when Rowan intentionally answered his question incorrect since Citra had answered wrong. "He was doing this for her. So she wouldn't have to suffer alone through whatever punishment was in store. So she wouldn't feel she had fallen behind him." Rowan's action was noble because he chose to sacrifice himself for Citra.

In the book Scythe by Neal Shusterman, Citra desperately does not want to become a Scythe. In the text, as she is backing away from Scythe Faraday, she says to him, "Rowan can do it. I'm not interested." She tries almost everything to make Scythe Faraday change his mind about choosing her, but there was nothing she could do. This proves that Citra did not want to become a Scythe.

Ava L is finished with The Jacket
Gary is a very grateful boy. After he asked his mom for a cool new jacket and got an ugly avocado- colored one, he was still thankful for it. In the story, Gary, "threw the jacket onto his brother's bed and looked at it for a long time before slipping it on and going to the backyard, smiling a thank you to his mom"(4). This shows that even though Gary doesn't like his jacket, he is still grateful he has one.
