One kind part was when Ms. Bethune allowed Fadi's to get an extra day to enter the photo contest. Fadi's camera broke during a fight at school. Fadi needs to win the photo contest, but needs to get a new camera first. When he asked Ms. Bethune for an extra day she said, "I need your entry form and photo no later than by the end of Friday though" (200). This proves that she was kind for letting Fadi get an extra day.

One important part was when Anh told Fadi about the competition in photo club. One of the prize choices the winner could choose to go to is the Taj Mahal in India. In the text Fadi thinks, "India is right next door to Pakistan. I could fly into India and just hop over to Peshawar" (108). This part was important because it foreshadows that Fadi might use this plan to get back to Mariam.

One important part was when the narrator told the reader about Habib's store in downtown Kabul. When the opium crops were destroyed, Habib needed a way to help his family. In the text it says, "Habib had opened a small dry goods store in downtown Kabul to support the family after the opium crops had been destroyed"(55). This was important because Habib sometimes brought Fadi to work with him when he was young.

One part that was very sad was when Alby died. Alby died when they went to war with the grievers. He tried to sacrifice himself so that everyone else could get past safely, but it failed. Newt and others cried. In the text it says, "Seeing Alby go down like that... a new kind of pain had never felt before filled his insides"(333). This proves that it was very sad when Newt sacrificed himself to the Grievers.

One part that made me feel relieved was when Minho told Thomas that they hid the maps. Minho and Newt hid the maps when Theresa said that she triggered the ending. In the text it says, "We hid the freaking Maps in the weapons room, put dummies in their place. Because of Alby's warning and the so called ending your girlfriend triggered"(271). This relieved me because it means that they can still find out the code.

One strange part was when the Griever Jumped off of the cliff. Minho and Thomas were following the Griever until it went to the side of the cliff and rolled off. In the text it says, "Then Thomas stared in shock as up ahead the Griever dug in with it's spikes and spun forward right up to the Cliff's edge, then off, into the grey abyss". This shows that that it was strange when the Griever jumped off of the cliff.

One surprising part was when Minho said that Thomas should become Keeper of The Runners. At the council meeting Minho was asked his thought of the topic of what to do with Thomas. He said that he should become Keeper of The Runners. Everyone thought he was joking. Minho said in the text, "I nominate this shank to replace me as Keeper of The Runners". This shows that it was shocking when Minho requested this.

One trait to describe Thomas is brave. Thomas went into the maze to try and help Alby and Minho from getting stuck in the maze even though Newt was telling him to not do it because he will die. In the book Newt says, "Don't do it, Tommy! Don't you bloody do it!". The text says, "Thomas knew he had no choice. He moved. Forward."...."The walls shut behind him". This shows that Thomas is brave for going into danger.

One surprising part was when a girl showed up in the box at the Glade. When a girl showed up in the box everyone was in disbelief and at a loss of words. In the text Alby murmured, "No Way." Newt also said, "Holy. . ."This proves that the boys were confused and shocked when a girl showed up at the Glade in the box.

Gary is a very grateful boy. After he asked his mom for a cool new jacket and got an ugly guacamole colored one, he was still thankful for it. In the story, Gary, "threw the jacket onto his brother's bed and looked at it for a long time before slipping it on and going to the backyard, smiling a thank you to his mom"(4). This shows that even though Gary doesn't like his jacket, he is still grateful he even has one.
