Reading this book to prepare for the new tv series

It’s getting really good and nuanced. Depth is being added to the story snd the stakes of living under this new government

Good good good. Dystopian. Following thoughts and disagree-ers

I think this will be a handmaids tale/animal farm situation. It’s such more dense though. Sometimes k find myself rereading sentences and trying to figure out what they mean. Especially being introduced to a whole new system of gov and society so quickly.

Levi clearly feels some kind of way towards Dani, but she refuses to believe they are romantic advances. Relatable‼️

I think I figured it out. Dani has only ever truly liked/loved Levi and when he rejected her at prom she shut down and believed that no guy was interested in her because clearly Levi liked her personality and the only think missing are her looks. She doesn’t believe she attracts male attention because someone so important to her shot her down at such a young age.

There are clearly feelings between the pair, but the level of feelings is unclear on one side.

I would not be able to do this. How can you willingly put yourself through the pain of being around that person with the understanding that your are friends. Hallucination, shame, guilt, pain, more pain‼️

I think the author toes the line between Levi having feelings for Dani and him just acting to keep up appearances very well. If I was in Dani’s shoes I would feel very uncomfortable with this arrangement because of my feelings and the uncertainty of the « boyfriend’s » feelings given the situation.

I think this book is going to be a difficult read for me. Not because of bad writing, but because the storyline will be all too real.

How poetic that Dexter is now the one being cheated on. Hurt people hurt people? Karma?

Watching a close friend because more and more uninterested in you when they don’t understand it themselves is the most heartbreaking thing. You know how they feel, but they don’t.

« He was meant to be having dinner with Emma in Tuesday, but knows that he can always cancel Emma, she won’t mind. »

You can’t take the people you care about for granted and expect them to care about you. Words v action. Smarten up Dexter Mayhew.

I can imagine everything happening in the story like it’s a movie playing in my mind. Well done Nicholls

Started watching the tv series and decided I needed to read the book first. I know the ending is not good, but I don’t know what it is specifically

Dense, but it gives a lot of context which is great for someone who doesn’t know much about rock and the music industry in 1960s America
