I’m really enjoying my consideration of Mary during this read. She’s working really hard to improve herself inform her opinions of the world, she just is so far less sociable or sophisticated than her older two sisters, but she really is not as silly as the younger two. I deeply enjoy imagining her potential. She tries so hard to be sensible but doesn’t know exactly what it looks like.

I worried that pandora is gonna get into a situation where she learns that traditional feminine roles are the answer to her problems.

Really loving Drago and the reminder of Archie from gone with the wind. Super annoying that headstrong females need masculine bearded man to protect them as they work their way through a masculine world.

My favorite line is still “he smelled like an expensive forest”

Am I turning into Vanessa Zoltan? When looking to combine meaning making with a paycheck, I started teaching. It IS really depressing; I love actually teaching, but as a teacher, that is only 20% of my work. "I didn't have a better sense of who I was except that my infirm tricks of education and non-profit work were not the catchall spaces that would reward my white savior complex."

Super excited to get started. I’ve been listening to HPST for years and what hooked me into the show was when Vanessa mentioned J.E. was her favorite book on one of the first episodes.

Love: Intro about how necessary the sea is to calm the mind, Ishmael’s surprising accepting attitude once he gets to know his cannibal roommate through only a few brief observations, the pastor’s well-given sermon on Jonah and seeking repentance

2 hours left of the audiobook. This book about books is making me want to curl up in my library corner forever, driving through my unread section and spending more time formulating my thoughts about books. I want to flush out my thoughts about the things I'm reading instead of letting them wash over me like television soap operas.

Rebecca is starting Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman
Twenty minutes into this audiobook and I'm captivated. One of the first things she talks about is the childhood question "what do you want to be when you grow up?" And talks about the role models available to her. It's making me instantly reflect on my childhood and the messages that were broadcast to me, as well as the other messages that need to be introduced to the world.
