I remember when I first read Shadow and Bone, one of Bardugo's more popular series. The first book left me with a hunger for more, tho back then the bar wasn't so high to begin with. Upon reflection, the book wasn't mediocre but it certainly wasn't exceptional. It left an odd taste in the mouth. Excitement, unease, a bittersweet taste. This book reminds me of that feeling except, I think it is slightly more exciting.
