This interpretation is so interesting and very persuasive given my intuitions.

Thesis: Vaccine hesitancy is not primarily a result of “scientific illiteracy,” “cognitive biases,” or “anti-expertise and science denialism,” but of “unsuccessful science-public relations. The success of those relationships, like all relationships, hinges on trust. …trust is not secondary to good science in support of vaccination; it is, rather, central to the very controversy over vaccines.”
