She found herself in another world, been captured by vampires, told she's 'special', forced betrothed, sent to military school, is being shown around by her betrothed's other betrothed, who just wants to be her friend (and definitely won't start bullying her) and everyone is so happy to explain the world in such great detail. And she doesn't seem that fazed at all! It's weird and I just don't care.

Lots of skim reading, was tolerating Anji and the Hawk, now Anji is with the other menagerie members who are cruel psychopaths and religious zealots and it started to get torturous... nope. I'm out.

Hmm... not sure about this. Chapter one was mostly a giant info dump on the world and the magic system, which is bad enough, but it wasn't even well explained, so I don't actually understand the magic system... 🙄

I tried, I did, but I can't connect with the characters, I'm not engaged with the story and I have no interest in reading.

I'm struggling with this one. It has rave reviews and is compared to The Priory of the Orange Tree, which I loved. It's well written. But I just can't seem to connect to it.

It began so well. I was enjoying it much more than Uprooted. But now it's stalled and it's confusing and I just don't care. Such a shame.
