Not to be this person but I have to admit that I do see a connective thread between what Woolf does here with Orlando and what a young Taylor Swift thought she was doing when writing the song “Timeless” IN THE SENSE THAT LIKE “my love for this person makes me recognize their spirit and essence in every century of human history”

About halfway through and oh how I love this. I think that John Green’s success as a YA novelist is due to his overwhelming compassion and empathy for teenagers—he takes the feelings of young people so seriously. That seriousness and attention is perceptible in his non fiction and again here in his first novel for adults. Not to mention the metatextuality and fame and everything else I love about this book so far

Starting this thing I’m calling “Sontag September” where I read Sontag in September (because I finally got to borrow On Women from the library and then also bought On Photography from BMV. Side note, what if I said that the BMV at Yonge and Eglinton might be better than the one on Bloor? What about that?

Is this like modernist novel form of a Tim Robinson sketch? Everyone is so mean and awkward

The second last chapter felt like a satire of the Talmudic tradition

This series is kind of about everything in the world explored through the prism of female friendship. Class, politics, language, love, violence, hatred, religion, gender—everything is in everyone and it’s all in the tense, unending bond between two women. You get to see how extremes really do meet, converge, coalesce, etc. wow everyone needs to read these books I think

This series is becoming an increasingly rewarding read for me (metafiction-pilled)

Sometimes you learn things about yourself that reaffirm that you are exactly how you may appear. You’re not subversive and you’re not special. Like what if this book was very meaningful to me because so far it really is.
