Finished part 1. This book is nuts.

When the prince struggled to contain his laughter at Ferdyshchenko, I laughed out loud in a coffee shop. This may be my favorite Dostoevsky book so far.

I struggle with books like these. He continually will say that there is not a formula, but then presents things as formulas like the enneagram on 63. Also the sin ontology stuff is pretty garbage. He says everyone at their fundamental level is evil, which is what Freud thought. But even stuff he says after that about accepting a pastor's bitterness leads to a want for love (bad???), which is humanistic.

I'm weary of books like this that are more or less a "manual". I prefer Roger's direct writings which were almost all about the experiences themselves.
