i am a bit thrown off by mary anne’s casual reference of “smaller than american girls” to describe the size of a doll.
this takes place summer 1986, a few months before the first pleasant company catalogs went out in the mail…..mary anne would have no way of knowing what american girl dolls even were to use that as a general size reference.

this line only exists bc this book came out in 2010
