Every time I pick up this book it's a fight to put it back down again. The deathgrip I can already tell this series is going to have on me....

The first half of this book was pretty engaging but after THE Lorenzo dies the narrative the author is trying to stuff this all into has stopped working. Fascinating events are described in boring ways because of this and I'm REALLY fighting with this latter section despite how interested I am in the subject (especially Savonarola). The triumphs and defeats, the epic highs and lows of pop history 😩

Are there some instances of "hmmm interesting idea, can you explain or expand on that? Or did you just quote someone else's conclusion w/o fully understanding what was being said?" But overall I'm having a great time. Fun pop history.

This is so good I'm about to start tearing out pages and eating them.
