I could not put this book down. Coming from a Ukrainian Orthodox family in the diaspora with close ties to our local Armenian church, Ormanian’s classical work was fascinating to read another and similar perspective of Eastern Christian people’s trajectory. I also typically do not enjoy non-fiction so it was fun to take on a challenge! ☦️🙌🏽🇺🇦🇦🇲

It’s good to be back in Russian Literature! (And the most classic and celebrated anti-Soviet rebellious literature at that!)

Six pages in and already cried twice from the writing’s beauty: once in the foreword alone, and once 3 pages in. I can tell I am in for a beautiful journey.

Dracula sent me to a reading slump. Back to the basics.

I wanted to read Dracula because Monsters, and that is exactly what I’m getting. I’m also really enjoying the mystery aspect I was not expecting!

900+ pages in and we just got to the barricades; and it made it worth it and that much more meaningful.

Final stretch! 🇫🇷

Part 2/5 complete! The flight from the Thernardier’s, life and escape in Paris, and the essays surrounding the convent make this part of the book exciting and compelling. Certainly Jean Valjean’s and Cossette’s found family. Up next: Part 3 - Marius

With my 52 book goal in 2024, I had to focus on shorter works in general. It has been a joy to dive back into an epic work of literature. Onwards and upwards!

This is my 2nd Christie read, and there’s a reason why she’s the 4th most published author ever

This book is definitely one of my more complicated reads of 2024, but getting to peel back the curtain in Tolkien’s world building is worth it. I am definitely enjoying 2nd age Númenor the most.

The ending was not what I was expecting at all, strange, but good. The Harq al-Ada twist was fascinating. Overall, it was so weird it ends up working and is good. Also, sci-fi is sci-fi.

Herbert’s writing is still captivating and compelling. None of the characters have a clear good morality. I’m excited to see how the ending plays out!

I’m continuing to be captivated by Herbert and his writing. The characters are incredibly, I’m still captivated by Paul, Stilgar, and Jessica, but the further development of Princess Irulan is becoming more intriguing.

A powerful and engaging start! I have watched the 2021 and 2024 films and am appreciating the ability to deep-dive into Herbert's authorship and world-building. There are also great details that did not make the movie adaptations that are a joy to watch unfold.
