Moving a little slowly but still a very good story. He’s basically convinced Villefort he is a superior being which honestly felt strange but he basically has the upper hand on quite literally everyone. Now he’s visiting the Morrels to get some happiness and cancel out his recent “poison”.

As well as this, Bertuccio sought refuge w/ Abbé Busoni, the same Abbe who carried out Dantes final orders (hint: it’s just Dantes). Anyways, they had a private conversation about it and Bertuccio basically met Busoni and was sent to Monte Cristo. How he didn’t know they are the same people is beyond me… or maybe he does. I have no idea how it would change the story either way, but I won’t Google.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention, Caderrouse and his wife tried to rob the jeweller they sold the diamond to, his wife got merked, so did the jeweller. Monte Cristos steward murdered Villeforts dad (I think) and he was falsely imprisoned for it (longgg story, read Signor Bertuccio if you want it again). Anyways now his wife fled with Villeforts saved son (weird) and they haven’t been seen since. (1/2)

I feel like it’s going to well for him. Everything has been running smoothly so far and people are getting curious about who this man is. He has made the acquaintance of Danglars and his wife, who he has lulled into liking him. He has saved Villeforts wife and son, gaining their admiration. Villefort is alive! And they are to meet.

I can’t help but feel Franz will come back right before the count acts (1/2)

Oh boy oh boy. Dantes has visited Albert’s house, met his friends, one of whom brought along MAXIMILLIAN MORREL! That’s the goat fr tho. He also found Albert is Not just Fernands son, but MERCEDES SON TOO! They met, but only briefly. Bertuccio (who is NOT Jacopo) took Dantes back home, and told him of a terrible truth. He was a murderer, and has evidence against Villefort being a good person…

Franz is starting to get there. He understands the count more than he thinks. He has picked up on the sight in the dark, the vengeance, the wisdom. He really isn’t missing much here. Don’t forget we’re a good 6-7 years on from where we last left Dantes. He is affiliated now.

The only thing Franz is missing is his complete history, and his dislike for Albert may become apparent soon…

SINBAD IS EDMOND! I’m still struggling to understand. Sinbad has been everywhere. The count is lesser known and very discreet, so choosing to be revealed as the count must be intentional. And I was so upset seeing he was to commit suicide. He was genuinely such a caring person. BUT, Sinbad (I’m assuming a character of Dantés fakes) gifted him the money he needed, a diamond “the size of walnut” !!! And A REBUILT PHARAON CAPTAINED BY JACOPO???? I LITERALLY SHOUTED OUTLOUD SEEING “Jacopo! Jacopo! Jacopo!”. I haven’t mentioned him before, but he is a new faithful friend of Dantés.

I love how Dantés is wearing disguises to treat all of his friends, and treating people equally. To Caderrouse, a diamond that would not harm Dantés wealth, for telling the honest truth. But that part with Danglars might have been the most peak chapter of all time. I was so sad seeing what was to happen to the unfortunate man (1/2)

Book 1 finished

Seemed like a preface into his general attitudes instilled by his friends and family about patience, kindness, forgiveness, and a good old fashioned work ethic.

I also feel so bad that Fabia didn’t complete the journey with him. Bro was genuinely such a great friend and prison father figure, but his death was not in vain. DANTES WILL CARRY THE TORCH

Finally he is on a boat that is seeming safe (I hope??) but I have a very slight suspicion that they might not be good people given the chapter title “the smugglers”. Also, I feel like the escape is gonna come back to bite him.

I can’t believe he really spent 6 years in this mf, couldn’t figure out how to fix it, then his good friend Faria popped his clogs and all of a sudden he figured a way out?? Bro is honestly cooking. Some serious come to Jesus moments right here. This Abbé dude is hella smart. He spent a year teaching Dantes so much, explaining who fucked him over and why (he is now filled with determination), planning an escape, and telling him of riches and treasure

Shit got real dark for a min there. Dantes spent 6 flipping years in prison with no one to talk to but his jailer, and now he’s met Abbé who is fucking cracked out of his mind. Hella smart, and together they’re now devising a plan to escape the prison

For 100 days following the talk with Villeforts father, power switched hands a few times. Villefort married his fiance as it better set him up for power. Morrel petitioned for Dantes to no avail (villefort kept cock blocking). Danglars disappeared to Spain, scared of Dantes return. Caderousse and Fernand are sent to fight for napoleon in a conscription, and old Dantes dies in Mercedes arms.

So dude was arrested the night of his wedding banquet and the day getting back from sea on the 28th of Feb, and sent to prison on the 1st of March. Villefort speaks to the king on the 4th of March, and by which time napoleon had landed on the first in France.

Needed a second note to keep up with the date. So apparently it’s the 4th of March, napoleon has landed on the 1st of March, which I believe is the same day Dante’s was arrested? I’m not sure I’m gonna have to check

Chapter 10 was a lil slow, but chapter 11 actually had my jaw ON THE FLOOR. Basically Villefort was summoned to speak in front of the king and basically slapped the shit out of the minister of police (with words). Anyways Villefort is now hella important, and Napoleon has landed in France. Louis ain’t too happy bc the MoP didn’t know, but also Villefort DAD assassinated a general and is now speaking to him

All because Danglars was jealous as fuck and he planned some crazy shit to get the role of captain AND fuck over Edmond.
