This author is looking for any and all convenient ways to avoid character/plot/theme development and worldbuilding as much as possible.
Like I have no clear idea of the city we're in, let alone how the politics work amd why that's even important. The author doesn't seem to know either.

If I have to read 1 more love triangle between the MC and two brothers I will puke... BUT, for now, I will enjoy the drama.

The sheer lack of thought put into this book is honestly entertaining. It's a juvenile, simplistic, bundle of 2010's YA Fantasy tropes put in a blender.

How come Fallon doesn't ask simple, logical, obvious questions??? And, how come she knows things she would never know, and then be completely genuinely shocked to hear that same thing get told to her 20 pages later?

I just had to undergo a 10 page process of two characters reading each other's files, which included full childhoods and everything, just to now have to endure a 27 page long tangent about a minor character's backstory (childhood included), alongside even more grafter history (if there ever was a possibility). This is worse than the 19 page long explanation of a war around 100 pages prior. I get it, O'Malley, but wow

Not to be impatient, but I'm almost 200 pages in and the premise described in the blurb hasn't even happened yet. Also, there is SO MUCH EXPOSITION. Like there was literally a expository tangent that was 19 PAGES LONG. And you can't go 5 pages without the author going on an exposition rant whether it be about a character or Chequy history. Like my goodness I need a break!
