This was my first Bones book and it's hard to form any real positive opinion on the series. It's so clogged with boring technical jargon, bloated with descriptive paragraphs that offer nothing to the world building/tone and a lot of racism. If you were to take a shot each time Tempe's panties were mentioned you'd die of alcohol poisoning. The last 80 pages were engaging but that's not a great payoff for 368 bad pages

Reading this out of obligation because my mom loaned me this book. Somehow it is so much more racist than I could have ever anticipated. Marking this note here on page 134 praying that somehow I can make it through whatever's left of this slop.

This is just my opinion but I prefer the more fantastical and detail oriented illustration from TPB. Cats were proportioned in more diverse ways, and there was a lot more use of creative framing and intersecting comic panels. That being said, the first of this series' adaptation was still enjoyable and had some great full page spreads. I'm a simple man. I see Squirrelflight or Leafpool and I rate 5 stars.

I don't think reading theory is something I enjoy but there were moments in here with the interviews and archived letter correspondences that helped me finish it. Definitely would prefer to just go over those on my own separate from these papers but it was a good introduction and jumping off point.

I remembered this hitting like a gut punch when I first read it in highschool and I'm happy to report it is still such a good read that made me emotional.

I can certainly say I felt moved by some parts of it but others left me uninterested and unconvinced that these two truly did care for one another. There is a very intense melancholy and depression hanging over the latter half of this book and I think the writing shines when we as readers are left thinking about the intricacies of their undefined dynamic and how opposite they could often be. The ending hurt a lot.
