Holy SHIT

Kliewer writes tension and anxiety as well as any modern horror writer. His ability to texturize the human condition by pressing and pulling on anxieties within the character's internal monolog is amazing, and it doubles back onto the reader because WE know what is at risk. Macy is a victim of circumstances we have read a book about. Can't wait for the rest - hopefully the momentum goes somewhere

Pretty good so far! Very relatable main character. She's doing what she has to to keep her and her little sis off the streets - that motivational arc does hold up pretty well for me given how bizarre the 'Caretaking' job is. Hopefully Kliewer can contain the supernatural events in this book because so far he's opening up a lot of doors for questions from both the reader as well as the actual characters themselves....
