I think I have an issue… the sadder, darker, and more hopeless it gets, the more obsessed I become. Can’t stop thinking about it.

So… it starts sad, stays sad, and is it going to end sad too? I’m not sure I have the emotional stamina for 277 pages of this.

I just can't understand how a book about words and linguistics is managing to destroy me so much

I picked this up with fairly modest expectations, and it has turned out to be one of the most rewarding surprises I’ve had in a while. It’s sharper, more layered and far more engaging than I anticipated. Who would have thought that a book about linguistics (very long story short, obviously) could be so addictive?
