I do find it strange that despite finance being a quite essential aspect to capitalist development Marxists only seemed to notice its influence around the turn of the century. It partially makes sense with the economic developments of the time, notably with the prominence of German cartels, but was it not remarkable earlier? Makes me want to read Hilferding.
