If these elves aren’t mind controlling the humans, I’m throwing this book at the wall. Not a single one of them is questioning or fighting back when being enslaved to fight their colonizers war? Like wtf is this world?? How are they all idiots?!

Idk how to explain it but this book is like a romance meets existential crisis meets dude where’s my car.

What an interesting way to think about how we portray ourselves and our version of the truth to other people. We’re all just little sociopaths manipulating others to see ourselves in a certain way.

Ahhhhhh yessss. I love a FMC that refuses to fit into others molds and instead shows the world she’s great as is ❤️❤️❤️

The urge to DNF is strong.

I'm getting really close to DNF'ing this one... I didn't need a whole chapter on how to harvest tobacco... I'm not loving the overdone take on poor Appalachia, it's feeling like a book of stereotypes so far and nothing else. Someone tell me it's going to get better and that there's a plot somewhere in here that isn't just "poor kid growing up in poor Appalachia among all the stereotypes the author wants to include."

Ummmm ok but why penny…? Seems like an awfully selfish and ultimately hypocritical of a thing for Lottie to do. Ugh I don’t want to root for such self-hate.

Screw Antonia and Jack. Are they even real friends if they won’t just murder your ex for you??

I was hooked by 10% but I’m now at the point that I’m mad at life for making me put this book down.

These two back to back perspectives on the same person is sooo good. This is why Schwabs a 5 ⭐️ author. Not to mention the nod to the theme of flowers and soil.
