I went into this book completely blind, and only after I started did I realize it’s written in verse. Now that I understand what that means, I can appreciate the artistic approach — but this style just didn’t land for me personally

Honestly, Immortal Dark feels less like a book and more like I’m reading stage directions. It’s all heavy description and drawn-out details that slow everything down — I feel like I’m watching scenes instead of living in them. The vibe is surface-level when what I want from fantasy is to fully escape. I keep craving more depth, more emotion, more pull me in and don’t let go moments.

Dark academia meets gothic mystery—Gothikana gives me major Hollow Heathens + Nocticadia vibes. I love how Mr. Deverell weaves Macbeth + Dracula into his class—it feels like subtle foreshadowing 👀 plus Corvina’s dream + Von’s darker undertones keep me guessing… is he behind the deaths? Or is it schizophrenia, a curse, or something vampiric? The atmosphere is eerie in the best way.

48% and this FMC is testing my patience 😮‍💨 The prose has its moments, but her whiny dialogue makes her insufferable — and stuck in her POV, there’s no escape. I keep zoning out, rereading the same page like maybe it’ll glow-up on round three. Holding out for that post-climax magic, but right now it’s giving homework with a side of whining. Girl, I did not sign up for this.

Katie King is 23% done with The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue
This reminds me a bit of Peaches and Honey—a girl yearning for more makes a deal with a god for freedom, but at the cost of being forgotten by everyone. Watching Addie navigate this “freedom” feels both heartbreaking and fascinating—she can’t work, keep a home, or hold onto relationships. A new character, Henry, was just introduced, and though their meeting was brief, I sense he’ll be important later.
