It’s a book where you keep discovering new things

He’s really got the mystery box mentality to invoke intrigue until the next curiosity gap. I can feel the tension swell and fall and swell.

Reading in longer form is especially helpful. The section of Jesus getting rejected by Samaria and then telling the parable of the Good Samaritan is just so fascinating to ponder over.
Lots of deep, clever, and moving parables that are so good to read altogether rather than just reading one pulled out of context.

Reading this after watching some of Secret Lives of Mormon wives makes me feel really sorry for the people in the show who don’t know how to grieve or even feel loved by the person they once called God. Imagine having to go through a dark night of your soul while not leaning on God, while not having loving friends, and while on TV.

It isn’t written in a narrative fashion. There aren’t much “setups” and “payoffs”. He’ll be talking about one event in his life and then reference two past events that he didn’t include in the book. You never feel like you know the guy or his whole story.

He tries to touch on both technical aspects of his work and personal life (both chronologically) but he only dabbles in them. He doesn’t give much in-depth details in either and neither of them are all that interesting. Maybe he will as I get further into the book…

Him getting married, moving to the States and then divorcing seems like it would play a larger role in someone’s life than he talks about it.
