It’s so funny the dichotomy between Hextall the player and Hextall the GM. I feel like his bad GMing completely ruined his legacy

Reading this from the perspective of the Hextall era of GMing is really something

It’s helpful to read books from people who’s voice you know. It’s easier to read when I’m hearing their voice in my head

Loved that part about those weird moments you have being disabled in public and the weird ways people decide to interact with you. I think this has such a huge influence to my sense of humor and is a driving force behind why so many disabled people are funny

I related to the TSA chapter so much. I also had to have my Mom mash and smash my hands into their cursed thumbprint ATM. Mine didn’t take 45 minutes and I didn’t have to register as a no-hander, but it took a while and I also felt bad for the guy who was just trying to help. Offering out suggestions, maybe this angle! What about a hammer! Nothing he could do but he tried!

Still really good! It’s cool seeing people you admire from the internet show up here, like Zipporah!

I couldn’t really follow the cyborg stuff but the part about the blind person in jail was fucked up

I just read the short excerpt from Jen Deerinwater and that was cool because I heard her on the podcast with Maddie!

I said “what the fuck” out loud a couple times. The nazi stuff was wild and reading the descriptions of common behaviors of autistic people was like reading a description for Dominic. Walking on toes, flapping hands, intense and unrelenting focus on one topic, outbursts and “tantrums” as a way to re-regulate. This chapter has hit home more than I was expecting so far.

It’s wild how my views on disability has evolved over the years. I definitely had “the only disability in life is a bad attitude” in my Twitter bio at one point and now I roll my eyes whenever I hear that. So reading the part about the TV person who said he could tell the disabled woman didn’t see herself as disabled and basically that he admired that about her was wild and delusional.

I like it so far! You can tell she has a sense of humor about life with a disability and I appreciate that. Makes it easier to read.
