not normally my style (I tend towards the cozy end of the mystery genre), but thus far, it's been keeping my interest. A woman is investigating the disappearance / [presumed] murder of her mother at a music festival in 1994. The characters are engaging and it's been easy to transition from current day to 1990s.

Thank you to #NetGalley & #HarperCollins for the new Ernest Cunningham ARC! So far, it is shaping up to be just as great as the previous stories. Funny clever modern-day Australian mystery / adventure.

I switched off to the audio book last evening & am _really_ loving the two narrators. All of the accents & such really pull me into the story. (and I can still 'read' while I've got the migraine mask on - so win win!)

I'm so excited for the newest of the Rivers of London series, but I'm afraid it's been too long since I read the whole series & I've forgotten some of the storyline.

Thoughts:
Conan Doyle seems a big proponent of phrenology (intellect, criminality, etc. determined by size & shape of a person's head).

Watson may have been a doctor, but was criminally stupid when it came to Holmes. After that many years, to still be so completely taken in by his every disguise & ploy, is ridiculous.

Agatha Christie took quite a bit from the Sherlock stories to design Hercules Poirot.

I have been on a definite Sherlock Holmes kick of late. These are actual books / short stories being read by Stephen Fry - he has an awesome voice. I'm about 3/4 of the way through A Study in Scarlet.

I'm starting to love Audible's dramatized productions. It's a great way to entertain myself on the road. The stories are well-acted (with some big names from the UK - Hugh Grant, Harriet Walter, and Siân Phillips) but is challenging to keep track of all of the characters. It's been ages since I've read the books & this is inspiring me to pull out my copies.

ugh. I was hoping for a mindless bit of romance / smut, but there is zero chemistry between the characters and the dialogue is disappointing. sigh. to finish for the sake of giving it a chance to improve or dump it & start in on a different book?

Just finished The Copper Beeches. These are really very enjoyable. The audio performances are well done. And there's still 30+ hours of stories left! I don't think I realized just how many Sherlock Holmes stories Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote.

I am very impressed, thus far, by Walsh's ability to capture Dorothy L. Sayer's style & voice. The mystery was a bit slow to get going but it gives the reader more opportunity to see the growing relationship of Lord Peter & Harriet.

These are a lot of fun! If you're a Sherlock fan, you should give it a listen. The stories are fully dramatized and entertaining. The narrator also provides a bit of history / anecdotes regarding the production in between stories.
I'm currently on the 7th story: A Case of Identity

taking a short break from this audio book - the info is so interesting, but Mr. deGrasse Tyson's style is a bit distracting. At some points, I feel as if he's talking to a child, but then a few moments later, he's talking about something completely over my head.

It's interesting & worth a listen, but there are long pauses (clearly, he's displaying an image or item as part of his lecture) that makes just audio a bit incomplete. There are other times that it feels like he's talking to a child, but in the same lecture goes into a concept that, as a non-scientific person, is over my head.
