The atrocious prison conditions Davis and other women endured is heartbreaking ): I’m still immensely honored to be reading her story, and am enjoying this read.

“Why did women achieve such levels of formal power in ancient Egypt when so many others across time—up to today—have tried and failed?” An interesting question and cool dive into a history I’d like to learn more about!

This is still a super raw read; every word (made doubly haunting by Matty’s audiobook narration) reveals a disturbingly human struggle with ego, insecurity, and addiction. I’m dreading reaching the end because I’m certain hearing Matty say goodbye will be gut-wrenching.

Matty’s deadpan frankness is heart-wrenching and cathartic. This is such a raw read, right from the beginning with the most surreal opener. I’m hooked so far.

I’m already weepy over Emily’s special letter folding. Within a few pages, the editors toss out the fact that Susie’s dedicated transcription required the physical unfolding of their letters and, subsequently, likely prompted reliving the experience of unfolding each soulful exchange again for the first time.

Suffice to say, my mushy heart can only handle small, delicious sips of this treasure trove.
