The more this book goes on the more I genuinely dislike Kester. Girl, what are you doing???? You see how much pain and misery Tim is in, you work daily with people who try to remind you of your own humanity, in the midst of fears about a relaunch of the apocalypse, like how can you justify letting this go on??

It’s a liiiiitle bit convenient that Kester just happens to stumble across the exact book she needs- IMO there’s a fair bit of plot progression in this that just kind of happens, and by that I mean Kester herself isn’t the one pushing it forward. She just happens to be recommended into project dawn by Dudley, she just happens to meet someone to work with her, etc. Idk if I like that aspect

Why are some authors just allergic to writing in third person?? I can’t read a novel written in a man’s first person without being GLARINGLY aware that it was written by a woman.

Also just how easily Enka was able to turn against her background for the status of the elite? Genuinely sickening. Also I am more thoroughly convinced than ever that the author took the Zuckerberg’s marriage as a huge inspiration for Enka and Logan.

Let’s talk about the arrogance of a (presumably, given the subtext of the MC’s marriage to him) straight man to just believe that he can fix an “empathy” problem in the world. Baby girl, YOU are a direct descendant of the ROOT CAUSE of said “empathy” issue.

Science fiction is a reflection of the problems in today, and that could not be more apparent than in this first chapter, where the parents, outcast from the upper echelon of society, turn their nose away from it “as if it was a choice.” How many times in rural America do we see the people who can’t escape their own poverty sneer at this same thing?

I think it’s just so interesting how in every group therapy session thrown into a book like this, or not even a book like this, just in general, the jabs are always directed in the attention of whatever woman dares speak up first. How interesting that these authors have it scripted in stone that there needs to be some emotional mess of a woman present to throw a contrast against our stoic heroine/heroine.
