I do not like this world. The first issue is the severe lack of world building. There are no explanations for why it's set in modern times but has these weird courts ruling cities that are in their own version of the cold war. But honestly, even if there were explanations, I still don't think I would enjoy it. The courts and the spy academy just don't mesh well with the modern world. I can't get into it at all.

I am so bored! Aldrin is so annoying. He keeps saying he would do anything to protect Keira, no war would be too bloody, no means would not justify the ends, etc, etc, but he wouldn't even hire the assassins to kill Titania. His fear over her becoming a martyr is such a cop out. His plan to take over the assassins is so unbelievably stupid. There are so many other more satisfying ways this book could have gone.

I absolutely HATE the twist that just happened. It was 100% unexpected, but in the worst way. I'm not intrigued. I don't want to see what it means. I just hate it. It ruins the entire fantasy for me. I'm so mad.

I really hate footnotes in fiction novels, but it's even worse when they're at the end of the chapter instead of the bottom of the page.

The writing style is driving me crazy. It switches from first person to third person without any indication or font style change. Sometimes it seems like it changes the POV for a random sentence without any indication. The POV's in the interludes are difficult to figure out. The time jumps are unnecessary. And the cussing seems so out of place and it's super jarring. I can't even focus on the overall plot.
