This book is a kaleidoscope and a spiderweb. A kaleidoscope in the way it tells its story: jumping around chronologically as if to mimic the way memories appear in a reverie or how a drunk person might tell a story. A spiderweb in how it is written: many threads stretching across the narrative to connect ideas, phrases, and revelations. I am impressed.

Excellent book if you want to experience the journey of a mentally Ill man who is trying to be a good person and find happiness. He may be more sane than a lot of people who appear normal. He is aware of his flaws and he is working on them. There is a lot of humor here, mostly because he is extremely naive, but also because most people are crazy. He has no memory of how his life went on a mental illness detour.

Wild book. I will finish it tonight. I took a long break from it to keep up with newer novels, but I always looked forward to getting back to it. Nature is harsh, cruel, brutal. That seems to be the primary message, but there is more. You have to be a fighter to have a chance at winning... or surviving, for that matter. If you fight, you win or lose. If you don't fight, you lose for sure.

The book continues to fascinate me. It was released two days ago, October 23, so get yourself a copy and join me.

This is an excellent novel. It comes out tuesday. It is the life story of a woman who lived from 1761 to 1850. Her circumstances are dreadful, but she is amazingly resilient. The story is a first-person narrative with a great deal of dark humor. A fascinating blend of grotesque and humanistic.

The book bevomes more serious, less humoro6s in its second half. The characters are very engaging, so I was eager to follow their journey wherever it led. It is a wonderful book.

This book is delightful and fascinating. I will be reading many books by Hoban based on my experience with this one. His books for adults seem bizarre, but that is okay by me if his writing is as good as it is in this book. Turtle Diary is realistic in plot and dialogue (so far) but the interior lives of the two main characters are extraordinary.
