It’s interesting to me how quickly and uncritically CBMW’s positions were adopted by evangelicals

Anyway. a fun light read ahead I’m sure 🤪

My advisor mentioned this book to me over a year ago. But it’s not a sociology text- this is a philosophy of hierarchy (sort of).

The author himself recommends not reading it straight through…so I may just focus on the chapters he recommends to get the main argument.

But many concerns among social science and the public deal with the pecking order. So we will see

“There is no place in the service of worship where vanity and bad taste can so intrude as in the singing…there is the bass or the alto who must call everybody’s attention to his astonishing range and therefore sings every hymn an octave lower. There is the solo voice that goes swaggering…and drowns out everything else to the glory of its own fine organ.”

Resuming reading this tome. Not gonna lie, it’s pretty dense

As with most books on spiritual formation, the challenge here is not if I will simply read & add to my knowledge, but rather if I put these things into practice.

Something I’m thinking about as I begin to near the end.
