Had to take a break because work decided to demand too much of my energy but now I’m back at it again and just want to say Diondra, Ben, and Trey are so disgusting. Diondra especially makes me gag. Gross, gross, gross!!!

Flynn’s writing always reels me in.

I got distracted while listening to the audio book at one point and then all of a sudden Lucas’ fingers were inside Beth, LIKE?! Right in front of my salad…(spice was extremely short lived, thank GOD, I did not sign up for smutty horror)

almost 2/3rds of the way through and we still have no idea what the FUCK Brian did to Emma…there’s this eeriness that permeates the story and it’s creeping me tf out. this is either going to be an excellent read of a very disappointing ending…….. 🥴

the drama has picked up once again!! which is making me nervousssssssss.

AHHHHHH. the never ending mistrust of Zélie toward Inan, the fact she’s justified, that fact Amari was right that peace could’ve come so easily, the fact Inan was proven “wrong” and now has to be something he abhors to quell the fears of those he rules over—that’s the thing about violence….it begets the terror it inflicts.

the narrative is double linear, following the events before and after Fonny’s arrest and the suspense that builds leading up to the events of his arrest and the efforts Tish makes to release him from the shackles of bogus charges—it’s so intense and moving. i’m consistently near anguish and each acknowledgment of the unfairness of their circumstances just…gets me ☹️

Baldwin is never shy with his prose and his direct narrative approach is what hooks me into each story he weaves, but this one….this is clawing into me and turning me inside out….GOD!!

baldwin’s prose is so immersive in this one, i’m hooked—he’s raw, and real, as always, but he seems so honed in on a larger feeling it’s a wonder watching him weave this story.
