This story was wild and reminded me of the time I went down for jury duty selection. The process of jury duty is a slog, but that doesn't undermine its important. This book goes into that importance as a semi-academic textbook mixed with non-fiction. The author is clearly the academic type; reading certain passages was a chore--I re-read a few passages to understand the philosophical monologues the author loves.

This book was exactly as I thought it would be: a thorough look at the Phoenix creature and the evolution of its lore throughout time and across cultures. It is a dense read--less like a traditional storybook and more like an academic textbook, the type of book you would use to cite in an academic paper or to give yourself inspiration to write your own story involving phoenixes, both literal and metaphorical.
