Considering I placed an $80 book outlet order just because I wanted to order this book and needed enough to have free shipping but they had limited copies so I didn't spend time whittling down my order... I'm really glad I'm enjoying this.

I'm bored and struggling to choose to listen to the audio over music or even the thoughts in my own head. Considering a DNF

DNF @ 32% surpassed (by far) my eyeroll quota.
Also perhaps I wasn't paying attention but where did the ingredients for the sancocho come from? The freezer is broken and they were only expecting to be there for a short while.

DNF @ 35% I don't like the structure of this. It's too much like a podcast script instead of a book and I don't like the fictional elements.
It has too much of the authors' voices. Not in the fact they're narrators as I love Scottish accents but the casual tone as if they're chatting back and forth.

I'm going to need some demons to come out soon. I'm bored and the audiobook narrator is pausing in seemingly odd places that is noticeable at even 1.8x speed.

DNFing at 56% I've hit my eyeroll quota and looking at reviews it doesn't seem like the author makes anything worthwhile from the ending.

What a dumb name.

Not my typical read but my current library list feels heavy and I want something fun and this was available.

The school/Fresh Prince essay is excellent. I wish the book started there instead of the "jean short" one.

It's easy for people who have sacrificed nothing to rationalize their own ordinariness by calling me lucky. But I sacrificed my entire life; I sold it to the abyss. And the abyss gave me art.

The whole Abrahamic world invests itself in this promise: Don't lie, don't cheat, don't fuck or steal or kill, and you'll be a good person. Eight of the ten commandments are about what thou shalt not. But you can live a whole life not doing any of that stuff and still avoid doing any good. That's the whole crisis. The rot at the root of everything. The belief that goodness is built on a constructed absence, notdoing.

DNF at 58%. I support the author's message and generally agree with her but I'm just not vibing with the writing. It's only 137 pages but it's still too long. It's reaching my eyeroll quota.
