this book is so precious,,, I sure hope it's not going to break my heart at the end!

Such a cool premise; a professor develops memory issues after a car accident that happens in 1975. He's left to live in a cottage behind his brother's widow with only 80 minutes of new memory to work with. Mon - Fri a housekeeper takes care of the professor, having to reintroduce herself each time. As the story goes on, we find out how this unlikely pair becomes close despite the challenges they face

So glad I got to read this issue! When it first came out, I was OBSESSED with the cover (still am) but it was sold out before I could get my hands on it. That's why I love these "best of" series; it gives me another chance to catch up on the goodies I missed! <3 Natalie Haines art smm

On part two now & I think we skipped back in time to 2010? maybe this ties into what Harriet Tubman is going to free the narrator from,, hmm hmm hmm

It's growing on meee! Honestly, I think my initial reaction to this book was based off of 1) my lack of knowledge in black culture & 2) my difficulty figuring out what tone the author was trying to go for in the book. My bad tho; we live, learn, & grow. Now that we're in the meat of things, I'm really coming to appreciate the stories being told by Harriet & The Freemens

These two chapters were pretty compelling; I'm starting to get used to the universe this world is set in. Even though it's fiction, I still think the stories of Harriet's life truly illustrate a humanized version of her legacy. With the rest of the band (aka The Freemans) it's interesting hearing their perspectives as they also were enslaved & escaped with Harriet

This book man, it gets me hooked & then does something that completely throws me off. Harriet Tubman is telling Bob the Drag Queen this harrowing story from her childhood that inspired her to want freedom. It makes me forget that were in a recording studio until Bob asks "DJ Quakes" to give him a staccato violin beat. It feels like fanfiction, even knowing the context of this book

Alright so,,, I like the concept of this book so far. Famous figures coming back to help navigate civil unrest. Cool cool.. However, sometimes I'm catching myself being taken out of the story because it's a little silly to me. Harriet Tubman rapping with formerly enslaved people,, with Bob the Drag Queen. Hmm... I'm still going to stick by it and challenge my preconceived notions

Uhohh, the Manager at the dormitory is lowkey a weirdo who would've guessed! He only has one leg (which is relevant to the plot apparently) & he studies the bodies of everyone around him like a medical textbook. also there's this dark colored spot that keeps growing on the ceiling of his office. I sure hope it's not the mc's cousins blood 😀

Started the last novella in this book, Dormitory. So far some semblance of eerie-ness is there in this story, but I still think TDP was peak in that sense. Also, apparently I was supposed to pick up on the fact that one of the sisters in Pregnancy Diary was having hallucinations but :') that went right over my head. I feel like once we move the cousin into the Dormitory shit will start to get weird (in a good way!)

Hmmm okay! Definitely not as powerful of a story as TDP was... But it had its interesting quirks. Grapefruit was a significant symbol in this story, since the pregnant sister couldn't stop eating the grapefruit jam the other sister was making. Which for my homies who know, grapefruit had bad reactions to birth control, pregnancies, & all sorts of medications. But yeah, not as scary or thought provoking as TDP

Pregnancy Diaries is less creepy off the bat, so I'm curious to see how the twist manifests. It's interesting that the diaries are from the sister's perspective instead of the mother carrying the child. Some hints at a weird relationship between the mother & father so far. They live together with the sister who's narrating the story so far. Good hour of reading 😌

DAYUM BITCH THAT ENDING! So for my peeps who don't know, my QUEEN Yoko Ogawa SLAYS BOOTS THE HOUSE DOWN a scary fucking story. But it's not necessarily with typical horror* themes (*more psychological thriller). This whole book touches on things like obsession, cruelty, motherhood, and abandonment.
