Really hard to read at first glance. So many references to his personal life hardly any periods but I enjoy that it is his unfiltered thoughts and the true understanding through his eyes of tristessa and her home. I like learning more about Mexico in the 50s and impact of morphine/drug addiction and poverty and prostitution lots of imagery and when the references make sense they pay off
