guess who finally read this after 3 weeks…
here are my thoughts on the entry “the smiths: george, marjorie, and claire”
i can’t help but wonder what the purpose of this entry in the collection was. it doesn’t even seem to go into so much detail of the scenery, as hughes claims plath did in the intro. this section kind of bored me- while it was interesting to see writing, there was really no message to it.

going into this immediately after reading hell bent and having a book hangover is probably a horrible idea, however they have such similar plots im praying it can satiate the bottomless pit in my heart
also i own 3 RFK books and have not read any, so what better thing than to start off with her alleged weakest work? i’ve actually heard horrible things abt this book but IDC LETS GOOO

amazing plot. abhorrent writing. its a tragedy really but i'm tuning it out for the sake of these characters (i love them) (skills we've gained from wattpad)

mothers: excellent imagery. can’t help but wonder if this esther is meant to be a continuation of greenwood and if the mother bit is more on the duties of women
ocean 1212: OH MY GOD. i loved it. beautiful, nostalgic, descriptive, and lovely language

idk man this book is very conflicting. so much info dumping, the once cool educational features in between chapters has became an excuse to give context that could otherwise be given through writing, and unrealistic relationships. but the plot is picking up. but we’re also 260 pages in- there’s not much left to explore. 😞 disappointing.

i helplessly clung to the idea that this book wasn’t actually poorly written, the reviewers just couldn’t appreciate the elements of deaf culture. well, as a literature enthusiast and ASL student, i can now say that the dead culture is lovely and the books needs a LOT of restructuring, and i’m only 59 pages in

didn’t expect bardugo’s writing to be this good (based on the little bit i read i shadow & bone, which i hated so much i dnf’ed it after 1 chapter- standard were in HELL), but i’ve already found several grammar errors and it’s pissing me off this book has been out for 6 YEARS

rereading and it’s getting worse

real anger is being in a reading slump when reading is your favorite hobby. i’m in actual hell, and it’s fall!! peak reading season!!!
