My dumbass decided to continue reading this in the dark. Not making that mistake again

I am absolutely floored by the deconstruction of the myth. I just got to a scene where I had to shut the book for a minute to sit with what I read. The mental gymnastics, the maniacal adherence to the belief system, the blind faith in her mother, the disdain and superiority complex when it comes to other women? I haven’t read such a disturbing character in a long time.

So far so good. FMC is thoroughly unlikeable, hypocritical, and self-righteous, with a surprising amount of anger. The writing style and exposition dump took some getting used to, but I think it adds to the character portrayal a lot. We’ve been dumped back in 1855 and have met the family all over again. Beyond curious as to why the daughter is so freaking calm!

1000% recommend the audiobook!!
