For some reason I started this book four years ago and then laid it down. I picked it up again a week or two ago and have been mesmerized by it. It is brilliantly written. I won't be putting it down yet again until I finish it.000

In many ways, these stories are quite depressing! They document man's general inhumanity to his supposed "best friend." Maybe I'm a sap, but I think of my animal companions as little people who deserve my respect and lifelong care.

It feels as if I have been reading this book forever...and I have. It proceeds at a glacial pace, recounting the plot of every single movie Babs ever appeared in, and it is not psychologically insightful or indeed very well written. And half of the research is based on movie magazines of the 1930s--which were written by press agents for the studios! This is only Volume I. Oy vey.

A rather fast read as I started it at 2:45 today and have had numerous interruptions!

Making pretty quick progress. It's a fast read!
