I’m finding myself irritated with this book. Seriously, is this so-called “christian lit”? Who are these people and am I supposed to take them all seriously? Are you sure this isn’t a Hallmark movie or a Nicholas Sparks book? I’ll keep going for a bit but it may be an abandon.

Well, this is not what I expected…beautiful prose, unusual characters and an adept author. So interesting and enjoyable

3.5 stars. I enjoyed parts of this but the abrupt ending lowered my score

I almost didn’t give this 4 because the narrator was so poor but that isn’t the author’s fault. Good historical fiction about the time immediately following the civil war.

I’m not exactly sure how I got sucked into this one. Old theme, dual time, predictable and sentimental.

Perhaps there is a data bank kept for the number of similes, metaphors, hyperbole and flowery adjectives used per page. This one surely would top that hypothetical list. It became almost comical, which is a shame because the basic plot wasn’t terrible, but I kept thinking this author had taken a creative writing class wherein the instructor demanded the use of every literary device available within each chapter.

This one was definitely a step above so many of the others which can sometimes seem a little formulaic. I enjoyed it. Good mystery with historical references.

Can’t do it. I absolutely can’t stand these people. Honestly, get over yourselves and just try to be good, caring, kind human beings. This book irritates the crap out of me.

Wasn’t sure about this being performed as a play, but loved it, as I do all Jane Austen and having Emma Thompson as the narrator was a bonus. Just what I needed after all the heavy ones I’ve been reading and listening to.

I gave this four stars not because the writing was extraordinary, although it was fine, but because I simply enjoyed the story. I found myself wanting to read it and liking the characters so overall, a good one. Read several other Anna Quindlen books and always like them.
