Two cringe-worthy grammar mistakes in the first 30 pages does not bode well.

I'm listening to the Audible audiobook, which Saunders himself is narrating, and I can't decide what I think. Is it funny? I snort a fair amount, but mainly because it's sort of grimly, pathetically amusing, somewhat like the lovechild of Douglas Adams and Franz Kafka might be. There does seem to be more snideness than warmth in the humor, but my view may change by the end.

I hate this book. It’s analytically lazy.

Wonderfully crafted, medicine, history, poetry, woven into a map of the human body, each chapter a meditation on a body part. Reading it aloud to my sweeties as we drive across the country; each chapter provokes comment, and my eleven-year-old is wonderfully captivated.

Chock full of empirical studies on what habits of mind and life makes for productive scholarship and teaching, all fully consistent with common sense and entirely at odds with conventional behavior (and advice I have heard). Intellectuals love their hypomanic binge writing. Not my style, though.

Embarrassed to be 45 without having read this.

V excited to finally start this.

whirlwind self-education. very clear and very helpful.

This will require an essay rather than a review. Much to ponder.

This book is breaking my heart.
