horror vacui- i wish i could build a fort around my desk too :/

ok a little annoyed with control & his rigid adherence to traditional logic but im hoping it’s leading to his worldview getting blown open at the book’s climax. loving the encounters with the biologist (queen) and the power struggle against Grace- both really do a good job of foregrounding the question of “authority”

so far just as mysterious as the first, hoping at least SOME questions about area X get answered seeing as this book takes place on the other side of the border (at least for now). control hasn’t hooked me in quite the same way the biologist did but im vibing w him.

also- did the anthropologist/surveyor not die in area X?

everyone in this book is kinda a loser (except miriam <3)

take a drink whenever a reality show gets name-dropped (but what does it say about me that i know all these shows exist?)

a good amount of wink-wink, nudge-nudge for the survivor superfan, though im beginning to shudder at the label. still feels very expository atp

actually ive decided to not take this book seriously and i think thats the point
